Dashboard Computer Mounts

Are Dashboard Computer Mounts for You?
Dashboard computer mounts seem like they answer a huge problem for users that change vehicles frequently. Unlike standard vehicle computer mounts, which need to be specifically ordered for the make and model of vehicle in which they will be installed, mounts for the dashboard will fit in any vehicle.
However, there is a downside for this perceived convenience. Many of the mounting solutions use suction cups. If your vehicle’s dashboard has an irregular surface, the suction cup will not be able to adhere to it. Also, suction cups can lose their vacuum seal in extremes of temperature or humidity. The mounting solutions that use actual mounting hardware such as screws or bolts are vehicle specific, just like the floor mounting solutions.
Also, most dashboard computer mounts are designed for relatively small, lightweight devices. They can easily handle cell phones, GPS devices, or even iPads. However, they may not be able to support netbooks or laptops. If you have a full-sized notebook or laptop computer that you want to use in your vehicle, a dashboard mount is probably not for you.
Dashboard computer mounts are designed primarily for drivers that need access to a device, such as a cell phone or GPS device, while driving. If you want the convenience of multiple vehicle use for a laptop or netbook that you are using when stopped, you might do better with a universal mount that occupies the passenger seat. For mounting a computer that will be used by a passenger, a floor mounting solution is still the best bet.
