RoHS and WEEE Compliance
Both the TDS Recon X-Series and Ranger X-Series handheld computers are WEEE and RoHS compliant. These environmental requirements were initiated by the European Union (EU) and are gaining worldwide acceptance.
WEEE is an acronym for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It refers to the disposal of items such as computers, household appliances, mobile phones, TVs, printers, fluorescent tubes and more. WEEE requires that e-waste be recycled. TDS Recon X-Series and Ranger X-Series handheld computers meet WEEE requirements for importation and instructions for disposal.
RoHS stands for Restricting the use of Hazardous Substances. This environmental directive requires that hazardous materials be removed from electrical and electronic equipment.
TDS Recons and Rangers manufactured before the advent of these new directives may not meet these requirements. Here is how to identify whether your Recon or Ranger are RoHS compliant:
Ranger: TDS has designated a product code change for the Ranger X-Series. Ranger X-Series units which don't meet RoHS requirements are designated with "ST1" in the product code. Product designations are plainly printed on the main label in the battery compartment. RoHS compliant Rangers are designated with "ST2". For example, the model designation ST2-TY5GADB is RoHS compliant, while ST1-MY5CMDB is not compliant.
All packaging materials and most accessories are compliant for RoHS. All battery packs are exempt from RoHS under EU Battery Directive 91/157/EEC.
Recon: TDS has designated a product code change for Recon. Recons which don't meet RoHS requirements are designated with "H-175" or "H-176". RoHS compliant Recons are designated as "RE3" on the main label in the battery compartment. Product designations are plainly printed on the main label in the battery compartment. For example, the model designation RE3-MY4BMDB is RoHS compliant, while H-175-002231-10 is not compliant.
All packaging materials and most accessories are already compliant for RoHS. All battery packs are exempt from RoHS under EU Battery Directive 91/157/EEC.
