Antares has extensive experience in providing in-vehicle mounting solutions. The need to install a tablet PC or notebook in a vehicle has to be balanced with the various regulatory requirements of local traffic authorities around Australia. Careful consideration must also be given to placement within vehicles so as to comply with OH&S issues such as airbags etc.

Antares carries two product ranges with slightly different characteristics that meet various objectives; installs can be for temporary use without the need to drill holes in vehicles or fulltime permanent "plumbed in" equipment running off vehicle power systems and providing high gain external antenna for wireless applications.

Important Note:

While we realize that customers want to control costs of vehicle mobile implementations it is important that you seriously consider the appropriateness of your planned installation. The choice of an HP, Dell, Acer, Asus, Lenovo or similar "commercial off the shelf" type notebook computer may appear to have reduced upfront acquisition costs however these products are NOT designed for use in vehicles. There is continual vibration transmitted to the computer from road surfaces that will damage motherboards over time and particularly in Australia during summer, cabin temperatures reach well over 40 degrees at which point most computers shut down or fail. READ YOUR WARRANTY carefully as most commercial manufacturers specify maximum temperature ranges; usually 32 degrees celsius and you WILL void your warranty. Also frequent equipment failure adds to the TCO (total cost of ownership) as repairs are expensive, lost time is significant and in many circumstances, lost data can not be recaptured.

Antares also strongly recommends consideration of form factor in a vehicle deployment. A full size "clam shell" style notebook, whether vehicle rugged or office use only quality, has considerable issues with OH & S and can result in culpability of the vehicle owner/operator if a passenger is injured in an accident. A tablet PC is significantly easier to secure safely without impeding airbags in modern vehicles and can contribute to far greater safety. A large number of our corporate clients have recognised the value of this approach and taken a responsible role in ensuring the primary safety of their drivers. Mobile Desk Trek Mount

The Mobile Desk Trek mount features a unique "no drill" base that allows installation in a wide range of Australian vehicles without the need to deface the vehicle by drilling holes for mounting bolts.

This solution is very popular with our Local Government clients as their vehicles are typically leased. Antares has a variety of fittings that will generally suit the common commercial vehicles such as Landcruisers, Nevarra, Falcon ute, Holden ute etc. Where necessary we can modify the base fitting to suit.
